• Abstract: Seeking to produce a work which was totally theatrical and required performance, Mallarmé modified his original manuscripts of the Monologue and Improvisation d’un faune in order to achieve a definitive version of L’Après-midi d’un faune in 1876. This article compares the three versions examining the importance of the use of periphrases in this process.
