• Abstract: In the current context of crisis of the modern ideology of progress, it is shown that scepticism, despite some limitations in its radicalism, can play a role in contemporary democracy inasmuch as it fosters a culture conducive to educating the judgment of citizens. One can thus posit the figure of the « skeptical citizen », understood as someone capable of participating in democratic decisions regarding scientific, technological and industrial issues.
