Abstract: Ernst Kantorowicz has a unique place in the French intellectual landscape. Considering both the French translations of Kantorowicz and the reactions found in the French media from the 1930s onwards, we propose here a critical revision of the reception of his work, in the context of quarrels between the different French schools of History. We will show how this reception has covered over some clearly highly problematic issues of his work.
