• Abstract: We intend to show, by considering the texts of Sextus Empiricus, that the political stance of Ancient Skepticism cannot be reduced to a mere conformism. His reference to laws and customs is not prescriptive but descriptive of human actions. The political point for Sextus is not to recommend that people follow the laws or customs, but to show that political action is not guided by a theoretical opinion. Skepticism is therefore a path to a pragmatic conception of politics.
