- Abstract: With a focus on Gautier, this study considers the capacity of the journalistic matrix – formally hybrid and temporally dynamic – to produce an essay whose form varies according to its context : review, daily petit journal or broadsheet. The essay is best tried out in the relativist space of the periodical, a place of fast-paced writing, hybrid forms, and clashing characters.
