Abstract: This article examines the extent to which, contrary to received opinion, the author of the Recueil d’arrestz notables des cours souveraines de France and the trois Notaires had precociously recognised the historicist and systematic implications of juridical humanism. It aims to revalorise the place of Jean Papon amongst the major players in the renewal of French juridical thought in the early modern era.
