Abstract: Homeric description was reborn at the end of Antiquity. The tricks of the rhetorical genre are associated with the techniques of works described notably by Héliodore, Grégoire de Nysse, and Nonnos de Panopolis in order to create an image of the living. Competing with nature, language takes on the virtues of an inaugural demiurge.
