Abstract: The Discours sur l'anatomie du cerveau, published in Paris in 1669, provides an evaluation of much-debated scientific knowledge of the time. First deployed polemically against Cartesianism, it was later read as a manifesto in favour of the rigorous analysis of «the machine of the human body».
