- Abstract: The traveller-narrator in Sterne’s novel, Yorick, affirms that his “journeys and [his] observations will be of an entirely different nature from those of [his] predecessors”. This essay examines the way in which Sterne, in his last fictional works, defies and reconfigures travel literature by using the techniques of the contemporary culture of the fragment.
