• Abstract: La Légende des siècles–Les Petites Épopées by Victor Hugo uses fragmentation as an aesthetic principle by examining the rapport it produces between the part and the whole. The hypothesis here is to consider the segmentation of the work as a way of participating in a renewed poetic art. Fragmentation would then be a necessary concept for total poetry because it privileges the multiplication of the image of states of the world and links it to the eternal return of things.
