Abstract:Contes de la Pampa describes the social violence in the Argentinian Pampas at the end of the nineteenth century. These tales show how the literary imagination envisaged the resolution of discords between the liberal republican utopia on the one hand and the effects of modernity on culture, customs, and politics on the other.
