- Abstract: During the nineteenth century and in the first half of the 1900s, women’s role continued to be confined at home, under men’s authority, their main domestic duty being the care of their family. To strengthen this image, female magazines, conduct books, school manuals, all promoted models and examples of domestic virtues. Yet, post-unification Italy also witnessed an increasing number of works and periodical written by women for women and expressing the growing demand for emancipation.
