Abstract: Conversion is at the heart of medieval thought and practice. In the 12th and 13th centuries, preachers exploited various rhetorical strategies in order to gain the audience's attention. The Graal novels, which were so popular in medieval society, were affected by this enthusiasm for sermons. They claimed to divert their readers, but became a means of moral and spiritual instruction.
