- Abstract: Emil Cioran’s decision to become a French writer henceforth named E. M. Cioran – which is usually described as a “second birth” – can be more tellingly understood as a “second submission” that allowed him to transform a temporary obstacle from which he wished, at first, to liberate himself into an irremediable failure whose conscious and willing acceptance marks the beginning of the later phase of his literary career.
