- Abstract: We suggest that the primary code of Cioran’s thought is bitterness. Reading the manuscript of Amurgul gândurilor (Le Crépuscule des pensées), we are convinced that metaphysical sadness assumes with Cioran the shape of bitterness, which is like a much more specific code for the very substance and matter of his thought. Bitterness is an important word which the thinker also mentions in the title he gave to the manuscript.
