- Abstract: This article studies the omnipresence of demonstratives in Tristan L’Hermite’s verse production between 1626 and 1639. Théophile de Viau sent the author of the “Promenoir des deux amants" an example of the “pastoral demonstrative,” which caused Tristan to develop a singular descriptive practice wherein the distance between subject and object is transcended. A result of this is the invention of a phenomenology of light: poetic description reveals objects less than it reflects the light that has brought them into view.
