- Abstract: Supposedly lacking the flash and sparkle of a heroic poem, Le Page disgracié displays a clear attempt at playing with form, which the rhetorical category of le style gracieux allows us to gather: indeed, it accounts for the balance in this story between the search for relative stylistic simplicity, the seductive power of flowery prose and an appetite for the fantastic. Le Page disgracié thus appears to be a portrait of the author’s character and the diversity of his style.
