- Abstract: Jean Giraudoux, sergent interprète in the 298th Infantry Regiment, a combatant from the very beginning, and who experienced the hell of the trenches, did not keep a daily journal, as did Henri Barbusse and Roland Dorgelès. Instead, based on his memories, he composed three war books that would be published between 1917 and 1920, the manuscripts of which reveal a great literary labor: in August and September 1914, he entered Alsace, then participated actively in the Marne campaign, before being wounded at Vingré in Aisne.
