- Abstract: Certain critics, Sartre among them, characterize Giraudoux’s oeuvre in terms of its precious and convoluted style. In reading the writings of Sartre and Giraudoux, then, one would expect to find them to be diametrical opposites. Yet a deeper reading can reveal interconnections. This article explores the overlaps between the two, without neglecting the specificity of two authors who differ above all on the question of style: if, for Sartre, idea precedes style, for Giraudoux it is style that shapes the idea.
