- Abstract: Farce has a bad reputation. For some men of the theater, it is noble. The Renaissance shows the superiority of comedy in relation to farce and inscribes this very same farce in Antiquity. The farce is closely related to facetiousness and practical jokes, which are also subject to disparagement. Like farce (both a kind of trick and a theatrical work), facetiousness is a combination of facete dictum and facete factum. The farce and the practical joke are genres characterized by intelligence - where nothing is easy.
