  • Abstract: Elizabeth Brown has questioned death and its rituals in all their forms. Beyond the merely ceremonial, her vast learning has led her to embrace all dimensions of the subject, in fields as varied as spirituality, anthropology and psychology. In her writing, as depicted in her articles, the king’s body is considered in its purely mortal form: divided up and buried in large sanctuaries, according to the deceased’s devotional practices; or in a more political form, as serving the transmission of power.
