- Abstract: In the Vengeance Raguidel, Raoul de Houdenc relies on his knowledge of the topoi of the narrative repertoire and on his public’s knowledge of it to put them to test through the principle of insertion. The vengeance motif works as a framed tale for the stories told by the protagonists, stories which are, however, an integral part of the diegesis, even those that have a life by themselves, like the Lai du Cort Mantel and the Chevalier à l’épée.
