Abstract: The story of Khurâfa is a foundational text. It is one of the oldest to use the embedment in Arabic literature ; also introducing a literary genre : the amazing story of which this story will be the epitome, personified by the hero’s name (Khurâfa). The underlying idea is that the process, which explains the purpose of the embedded narrative (to amaze), was used to install literary practices that lead, through the pleasure of the text, to the Thousand and One Nights and the so called “Middle literature”.
