- Abstract: G. A. Fenotti’s Alexipharmacum (1576), unfolds a particular strategy of persuasion : clever subdivision of the printed text, endorsements of other scholars, insertion and commentary of images, variety of languages, variety of expressive registers. Its complexity is worthy of note among the very numerous pamphlets concerning the controversy on alchemy in the second half of the 16th century. The ideas that pervade Fenotti’s work ignored the gradual transformation of a branch of alchemy in pharmaceutical chemistry.
