• Abstract: G. A. Fenotti’s Alexipharmacum (1576), unfolds a particular strategy of persuasion : clever subdivision of the printed text, endorsements of other scholars, insertion and ­commentary of images, variety of languages, variety of expressive registers. Its ­complexity is worthy of note among the very numerous pamphlets ­concerning the ­controversy on alchemy in the second half of the 16^th century. The ideas that pervade ­Fenotti’s work ignored the gradual transformation of a branch of alchemy in pharmaceutical chemistry.
