- Abstract: This article treats the question of the unit in the sciences of language by approaching a determining point of this science, the form of its discourse, and more precisely its lexical window, that it is agreed upon to call its terminology. We thus consider here the unit by distinguishing terminology and metalanguage, the first governing or aiming at governing the lexical unit of a domain, the second working on the conceptual and descriptive ground at the coherence and the explanatory relevance of the words that it is being given within the framework of a specific activity. Moreover, we treat the question of the complex terms in linguistics, whose development is considerable, and that have a non negligible incidence on the relevance of the terminological principle of good behavior regularly called upon, but more declaratory than efficient.
