La recherche toponymique au Brésil : une perspective historiographique

  • Abstract: The aim of this paper is to discuss different phases of Brazilian toponymic research and the theoretical and methodological trends that have guided the study of these place designator synchronicities. In order to do so, and taking the historiography in its general concept as a parameter, which in this case is to study and describe the History of toponymic studies in Brazil, this paper discusses the theme around three axes: the first recalls aspects of the historical process of toponymic studies in Brazil, establishing three synchronicities that have delimited the course of these studies; the second one discusses the Dick taxonomical model (1990, 1992, 1999, 2006) and its importance as a theoretical construct for toponymic studies, while the third axis involves contemplations on ATEMS –Toponymic Atlas of the Brazilian State of Mato Grosso do Sul – and especially two products of this project: the database and its first version (volumes I and II). Finally, the study shows trends in ways of consolidation in toponymic studies in Brazil.

    Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir as diferentes fases da pesquisa toponímica no Brasil e as tendências teórico-metodológicas que orientaram os estudos dos designativos de lugares nessas sincronias. Para tanto e tomando como parâmetro o conceito lato de historiografia – o trabalho de estudar e descrever a história – no caso, a dos estudos toponímicos em território brasileiro, o texto discute a temática sob três eixos: o primeiro resgata aspectos do processo histórico dos estudos toponímicos no Brasil, estabelecendo três sincronias que marcaram o percurso desses estudos; o segundo eixo discute o modelo taxonômico de DICK (1990, 1992, 1999, 2006) para o estudo da toponímia brasileira e a sua importância como constructo teórico para os estudos toponímicos enquanto o terceiro eixo tece considerações sobre o ATEMS – Atlas Toponímico do Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul –, com destaque para dois produtos desse projeto: Banco de Dados e a primeira versão do Atlas (volumes I e II). Por fim, o trabalho aponta tendências em vias de consolidação no âmbito dos estudos toponímicos no Brasil.
