  • Abstract: This paper presents the description of support verb constructions in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary, expanding its application in the field of linguistic analysis but also in the matter of representation in electronic lexicography. After an overview of the Sejong Dic, we first highlight the process of this description in the dictionary and consider its advantages. It simultaneously takes into account the lexical meaning of the predicate noun as well as its grammatical meaning, represented by each support verb construction, to distinguish the different usages of the predicate noun and to encode these using semantic classes. We further show that this method can be applied to the description of other types of support verb constructions, such as converse constructions and causative constructions, and that it can thus update and more accurately describe the correlations that exist in the uses of predicates of different grammatical categories, whether or not these uses share a morphological connection.
