Abstract: This paper shows how The Satin Slipper was discovered by the clergy, as read in letters sent to Claudel. These priests’ religious and aesthetical enthusiasm is especially noticeable about the theme of the Mystical Body. We also learn how they enjoyed both Claudel’s seriousness and fantasy and understood his blend of humour and sublime.
