• Abstract: Tradition japonaise & tradition française is the title of the lecture which Claudel gave at Nikko in 1922. Though he is christian-thomist, he explains the japanese soul with an affectionate look, penetrating into it’s secret life. Sensitive to all which is fleeting and elusive, the Japanese has regard for the nature, the human, the things, the rules… The new version de the lecture is incorporated under the title Un regard sur l’âme japonaise into L’Oiseau noir dans le soleil levant in 1927.
