Abstract: The Christmas night 1914 is a drama dictated by the First world War circumstances. Its writing and its performance sign a Claudel patriotic, national and catholic commitment. Rhetorical, this theatre of indignation is a funeral oration. But Claudel gives also to his drama an apologetic sense and an innovative dramatic art, as in The Bear and the moon and The humiliated father.
