• Abstract: In The Satin Slipper, the claudelian imagination rises again through the invention of a character that breaks with dramatic character conventions. This character, among others, is Double Shadow (l’Ombre double). As its name implies, Double Shadow is a shadow, the shadow of two bodies merged together. Double Shadow raises the problem of representing supernatural characters in text, on stage and on the radio. It is the representational becoming of Double Shadow that we will study here, so as to point out the dramaturgical and esthetical issues linked with this kind of character in the field of theater.
