- Abstract: In the essay « Sur des vers de Virgile », Venus not only represents sexual pleasure, specially feminine, but also generation and creation. Quoting many verses that describe voluptuous Venus in love, Montaigne examines the strangeness of desire and pleasure, both excluded from common language and celebrated by the dialogue between the poets’Latin and Montaigne’s French.
