• Abstract: The spatial metaphor of wandering is often near to allusions to error. The evocation of flight in front of the plague. Montaigne relies on the medical thought of the time which was influenced by the biblical discourse, but his flight somehow forecasts that of Charlotte Duplessis-Mornay in front of St Bartholomew’s Day massacre. Wandering is an image of spatialised error and that it is also a form of vagrancy to be avoided, but that may annihilate error too by writing.
