- Abstract: The relationship between Montaigne’s functions as a councillor at the parliament of Bordeaux and his work as a humanist is a recurrent theme in Montaigne scholarship. It is, however, less often studied through archival documentation connected to that parliament. This article proposes a comparative approach witch offer new findings between truth, judgement and error in the Essays, and the autograph and judicial composition in documents signed by Montaigne.
