- Abstract: Montaigne often confronted Stoicism, either to recognise the pertinence or interest of certain themes or moral attitudes or to very clearly and resolutely distinguish himself from it. B. Perona’s analysis seeks to shed light on the way this confrontation produces a very particular appropriation, via the texts of Seneca, a privileged interlocutor who allows Montaigne to better grasp the link between friendship and retreat.
