• Abstract: Rereading the chapter “De l’Art de conférer” and, more precisely, its final pages, Tom Conley examines the metaphors of the “work” and the “worker” used by Montaigne with regard to the singular form of his book. The analysis seeks to show that the separation of one and the other, from the moment the work escapes from its author, relates to the diversity of the arts, thus amplifying the meanings given to the “conference” as a dialogue, discussion, or “infinite interview”.
