- Abstract: Theatricality is an essential aspect of Vigny’s poetics, catching the spectator off guard in order to achieve dramatic twists impregnated with a startling irony. This schema recurs in the works inspired by Shakespeare as well as in the plays and the poetry. Indeed, it is the abrupt nature of the action that brings the plot to a conclusion. Rhetorical figures abound amid thinly-veiled irony, while humor and tragedy are tightly interwoven.
