- Abstract: Roman de Renart and Ysengrimus, which belong to the medieval literature of animals, place derision and play at the heart of fiction and its modes of writing. Death is seen through the joco-serius: the different themes tied to the idea of death (rebirth, trickery or deception) converge in the hope of a resurrection. The symbolic death, feint or played, appears as a way to atone for the fear of death and the feeling of despair faced with the infinity of the Hereafter.
