- Abstract: In Greece, in the Christian West, in India or in Africa, cultures convey images of death as well as funeral rites and codified attitudes to be respected with regards to the dead. For death and the dead have well-defined relations with the individual people and societies. Whether they are kind or evil, they are the subject of philosophical, literary or visual representations. These representations of individual or collective death also aim to ward off not death itself but the fact of dying.
