• Abstract: The paper draws an unusual ­comparison between two major European romantic authors, unequally known and studied though they sometimes wrote on similar topics (such as the indifference of nature), but in a ­completely different style: ­Vigny’s is firm and neoclassical while ­Leopardi’s writing of vago implies a typically Italian use of odd and flexible verses, close to prose and even automatic writing.
