- Abstract: This paper aims to demonstrate the novelty of the conception of signs that Vigny developped through his whole litterary experience. Deeply involved in the criticism mainstream of the XIXth century language theories, Vigny proves to be not only the poet of the symbols, but also, and may be above all, the precursor of the semiological revolution that gave birth to the modern and contemporary French poetry.
