Abstract: Martin Gerbert, a monk at the convent of Saint-Blaise in the Black Forest, a librarian, and a scholar, epitomized a way of life and a conception of art which was orientated towards the divine, and favoured by baroque Catholicism. Around a treatise called De Sublimi, Martin Gerbert illustrated the interiorisation of religion and the sacralisation of the poetic.
