  • Abstract: Medieval mysticism, drawing on an Augustinian heritage, has put forward a mystic life which was not sublime : it referred to an inner God who can be reached by all human beings because man was made in His image and who can even be approached closer, thanks to the theology of gifts, notably wisdom. In this sense, the mystic life could be said to be anti-sublime, unless it is anti-mystic.
